This is the first book Karen Thrun has written and it came about through the admiration she has developed for the Australian Quarter Horse. Karen has loved horses since her childhood, but took a particular interest in this breed in the early nineties. Back then she fell in love with the American stallion, Doc Bar and has since enjoyed discovering about many other influential sires.

The history of those American horses has been well documented. However, there was never anything ever published on the Australian history of the breed. Karen decided it was time to change all that and, after four years of research, she has published the first book ever written on the history of our outstanding Australian Quarter Horses.
In her research Karen travelled to many parts of Australia to interview some of the remaining key people who were involved with the foundation horses. She also took the opportunity to talk with others while she was following her own successful cutting mare, Chickasha Hope, around the circuit.
Karen completed a degree in Visual Communication and made a career as a Graphic Designer. Her husband, Claus, is a partner in an Adelaide Advertising Agency. She now works from their home at Mt Compass in South Australia, where the couple have also established Cleland Gully Quarter Horse Stud. In their leisure time, among other interests, Karen and Claus enjoy participating in the clinics and activities arranged by the newly-resurrected South Australian Cutting Horse Association.
Karen is very proud of the fact that she can now offer this legacy to the breed to ensure that the history of the Australian Quarter Horse will no longer be lost with time. She hopes that enthusiasts around the world will find great enjoyment in reading about some of the wonderful horses and dedicated men and women who helped to establish the breed in this country.
